working from home and the office

It is becoming more and more popular these days to split your time between the office and home. With the datamonster software installed on your office and home pc when you need that important document you worked on before you left the office you can access it easily via your datamonster account and continue to work on it when you are at home.

Share Storage

If you wish to share storage under the one account on more than one computer its easy and does not cost you any more. You may for example have the datamonster software loaded onto your work computer and wish to load it onto your home computer. Simply log onto your datamonster account on your home computer download the software again under the same account details and set up definitions for folders and files you wish to backup at home. The advantage of doing this as well as protecting files on more than one computer you can also access files from the other computer if for example you are at work and wish to access a file at home or vice versa.

backup cycle

When you set up a definition you can enter a backup cycle. For example if you select 10 this will keep the last 10 backups for this definition. So if you suddenly realise you have deleted an important file by mistake and you remember it was 7 days ago you can restore the file from the backup that was created 8 days ago

Backup Definitions

To explain what a backup definition is. When you have downloaded the datamonster icon on your desktop you can now start to create backup definitions. These are the names you will give to each backup that you create. You can have just one big backup definition lets say you call it my important files and for this backup definition you select everything that you wish to backup. There is nothng wrong with you doing this but we would advise that you create a number of smaller backup definitions for example one called my accounts, one called my pictures, one called my emails, my documents and so on

Make a note of where the folders are it makes it easy to set up each definition. Our how it works page has demos on how to backup and how to restore its worth viewing these before you set up a definition the presentations are 2 minutes long for each.
